The best way to know Pico Island
A rocky soil, covered in lava and volcanic slag, has been transformed into arable land. After years of hard work, people from Pico (“Picarotos”) cleared the many rocks that made up the Island´s soil. Only then, it was possible to plant a vineyard for the first time. Today, you will find these rocks in the black stone walls that surround the vineyards. If all these rocks were aligned, it would be possible to turn planet Earth twice along the Equator zone!
